Native to Central America, this iguana is a common sight in tropical forests from Mexico to Panama. It’s also naturally found on a few southern Caribbean Islands and in some parts of Columbia. Like most iguanas, they are primarily herbivores. Their simple diet and docile behavior makes them a common selection for people who want exotic pets. Unfortunately, this has led to a large number escaping captivity outside of their native range. In Florida in particular, it is warm enough for them to establish a stable population where they are now causing problems as an invasive species.
