The Five-lined Skink is one of the most common lizards in North America. It can be found throughout the Eastern United States and also in southern parts of Canada. Juveniles will have a bright blue tail which will distract predators and get them to strike at the tail instead of the head. This bright color will fade with age, as will the distinctness of the lines on the back that give the skink its name. Into adulthood, the lines are more subtle.
