Dotted Wolf Spider

Wolf Spiders are noteworthy spiders for several reasons. Unlike most spiders, they do not spin webs and either pounce on their prey or chase it down, much like the larger actual wolves do. However, what often gets them the most notice is how they care for their young. Where most spiders will weave their eggs into their nest or hide them away somewhere safe, Wolf Spiders carry the eggs with them. When those eggs hatch, the spiderlings ride on their mother’s back for some time as a form of protection. This can be quite the surprise for a human trying to shoo away what they think is a single large spider only to find themselves swarmed with a large number of smaller spiders.
